How cute is this little guy? I have been photographing a lot of babies and children lately and it is awesome. You really have to be patient and just let them do their thing and I like that. You never know what you are going to get, and would you believe me if I told you Declan was not too thrilled about having his picture taken? There was some crying between takes but that didn't keep him from still being stinkin' adorable!

Kendra and Stephen's wedding was quick and sweet! What I loved most about this wedding is that they involved their children and made this new marriage about them as well. It's always touching when parents know and see the importance of their children.

They got married on the roof of the Sea Crest Oceanfront Hotel in front of just their families. It was romantic and heartfelt. After the ceremony we made the quick trip over to Ventana Grill and got some great sunsetting shots :)

Sierra and John are dear dear dear friends of ours and I have been so excited about this wedding for the longest time. I still can't believe it has already come and gone. It was a great day, laid back, the best weather and full of joy and excitement to see these two love birds (who are so perfect for each other it's crazy) get married. This is a wedding I will remember for the rest of my life and I am so glad I was able to be a part of it. I love you Sierra and John!!!!

A FEW WORDS FROM SIERRA:

john and i spent the majority of our growing-up years just two blocks away from each other in templeton california, rode the same schoolbus and everything -- but never met until we were 16 and 17, in 2005. we kept mutual friends over the next couple years, and after high school he signed up to join the navy. three weeks before his ship date, a friend and i realized "john english is leaving soon..lets spend time with him before he leaves." this decision resulted in three full weeks of hanging out every day, (which included adventures like as pulling an all nighter to see a hot air balloon festival at dawn, and several journeys to the carisa plains to run around in the annual spring wildflowers) as well as both of us developing massive crushes on each other. this is the story of how john did not join the navy, and began dating me, instead.

we got engaged in july of 2010, on the tiny patio of his apartment in sacramento, where he was studying at an automotive tech school for the year. i spent countless hours with my nose in wedding magazines and web blogs, keeping busy til john graduated school in november. both of our families were huge helps in planning (and affording!) everything we wanted to do for the wedding. we definitely could not have done it without each one of them and couldnt be more grateful for everything theyve contributed.

having grown up in our little dirt sidewalk cowboy town of templeton, we wanted to keep a real hometown feel for the wedding. we eventually chose to hold the ceremony at the templeton presbyterian church, built in 1887, and the reception in the garden of the country house inn, which was the first home built in templeton, and is now a sweet little bed and breakfast. an incredible last-minute addition was being driven from the church to the party, in a 1925 ford model-t, offered by a friend who is a member of the local historical society.

the invitations were hand-drawn by an artist friend, and were such an amazing, personal gift for us. the centerpieces were a combination of ideas i gathered from my own head, as well as the wedding blog community. ive always been fond of history and antiques, so it was a total blessing to be able to work at a local thrift store for the last few years, where ive collected so many great old things.. these were my first inspiration for decorating the tables at the reception, which turned out incredibly, with the help of some hardworking buddies. the walnut wood rounds were cut and borrowed from my maid of honor's uncle, and the flowers done by the amazing lori boe, who is a local floral designer and also an in-law to one of my good friends. the bottles and jars for the flowers were a collaborative effort -- some collected by my self over the years and others borrowed from a friend who's wedding was two weeks before ours. we bought the burlap table coverings in bulk from a local hay & feed store (low cost for big impact!), and borrowed the glass beverage dispensers, which offered sweet tea with peaches, and strawberry lemonade.

we decided bbq was a simple (and tasty) solution for dinner, and fortunately enough, my mom is good friends with an 86 year old large-scale bbq master who, along with his son and friends, cooked up an amazing meal of tri-tip, chicken, beans and bread. we bought organic salad in bulk at a local wholesale store and served with it, several toppings and dressings. we had dinner buffet style for our 200 guests, which made it a lot easier. johns mom spent an afternoon tying forks/knives in paper napkins with twine, and we matched the napkins to heavy-duty plastic plates. least amount of dishwashing possible = great.

our good friends at shannon moore photography took our incredible engagement and wedding day pictures, and also provided a portable photobooth for the reception. the photobooth was a really fun way to get our guests involved in the celebration and make some memories of their own, as they were able to keep one copy of their pictures, and place the other in a guestbook, handmade by shannon moore herself, along with a personalized note! the design of their booth and guestbook table in particular really added to the rustic look and feel of the reception, which was awesome.

one of the things i was really looking forward to seeing in person was the cupcake topping bar provided by enjoy cupcakes, of los olivos california. we met several times with kevin vandervliet, co-owner of enjoy cupcakes, and tossed around ideas for making their vision of a self-serve cupcake topping bar come to life at our wedding. choosing enjoy was one of the easiest decisions we made during the entire planning process -- they are SO good. we decided to keep the cupcake flavors simple (chocolate & vanilla) and enjoy took the wheel from there, providing a generous array of complimenting sauces, fillings, and toppings to allow our guests to get creative with their dessert. john and i decided to take advantage of how fun this aspect of our day was, and create a cupcake to cut, instead of our own whole cake.

we asked a friend to dj and mc the reception, using her laptop and a borrowed PA system. more than anything, we wanted our guests (especially those from out of town) to feel comfortable, relax and have fun celebrating this new part of our lives with us! john and i both play music, and i play in an oldtime string band, so we decided that towards the end of the evening during dancing, we would jam on the porch and invite everyone to squaredance. this was one of my favorite parts of the whole day!

when i think of planning our wedding, my mind goes to every family member, friend, and stranger that lovingly offered all they could to help make our day as special and fun as possible. from the photography, to the bbq, to the wonderful group of family friends that gave up their entire day to setup tables/ refill drinks/ collect trash and ten million other tasks -- we couldnt be more grateful for the outpouring of generosity that made our wedding happen.

I am so excited to share these photos with you. Christy and Joe were awesome to photograph, they have love that just radiates and is very contagious. Christy is my old roommates twin sister and Joe is her God given other half. I had asked Christy to share with me how her and Joe met and it's an amazing uplifting story. I have it posted below the photos...I recommend reading it :)

Joe and I met two years ago in March. We first met each other through an online, Christian dating service called "ChristianCafe." It's an interesting story of perseverance, actually, and I totally believe that God brought us together. :-)

Joe initially "winked" at me through the website, but I ignored it because he didn't have a picture posted and I never responded to anyone unless they had a picture posted. However, he told me that he really liked what I wrote about myself and that he thought I was cute, so he would try writing me one more time. This time, it was around my birthday (the profile displayed my birthday so people could wish you a "Happy Birthday" as a way of breaking the ice).

I had gotten several, generic "Happy Birthday" messages on my birthday, but Joe's message stood out to me. First of all, in the subject line, it said "Birthday Blessings." Secondly, his message was completely original. He said something to the effect of wishing me all of God's blessings in the coming year. I thought that was sweet.

By this point, he has posted some pictures, so when I wrote him back I was excited to see how cute he was and that he was a musician (something I had been looking for).

Anyway, we exchanged a few emails, chatted online through the website and he finally asked for my phone number.

Now, here's where it gets interesting...All this had happened around the beginning of Lent. I hadn't decided what I was going to give up for Lent yet, but was leaning toward the Internet.

After church one Sunday, a couple friends of mine invited me to go to Laguna Beach with them to enjoy the beautiful weather. While there, I had a very deep, meaningful conversation with my close friend about my online dating experience thus far. Up to that point it had been less than successful, and mostly disappointing. I had already been thinking that I wanted to throw in the towel altogether.

While I had just given my phone number to Joe, I had done this before with other guys and things had never transpired into a date, so I didn't have high expectations. I decided, that day, that I was going to give up my online dating account (for which I had about 2 months left on my subscription) for Lent. I decided that when I got home that evening I would completely delete my account and put my trust in the Lord that He would bring a great guy into my life in just the right timing.

As I was making that decision, I chose to walk along the beach by myself and pray about surrendering my dating life into God's hands. I had just turned 28 and was disappointed about being single for so long, however, I knew that the Lord had good plans for my life, whether or not they involved marriage, so I chose to release those desires to him. As I was praying, however, I did ask God for one thing...I said to him that, if he did have marriage in mind for me, would he bring me a guy who likes the beach and would take me out on a nice date by the beach, perhaps in Laguna (which is my favorite beach)?

Anyway, that night, I got home, and within minutes of deleting my online dating account I got a phone call from Joe. I had actually forgotten about the fact that he said he was going to call. We had a great conversation and before I knew it, we had started dating. A few weeks later, he took me out on a date in Laguna.

We have been dating for about two years now, and on February 12, 2011, Joe took me to Laguna and proposed to me just after sunset. What was so special to me about that moment was that I realized it was in the same spot where I had prayed that prayer asking God to bring me a guy who likes the beach and would take me on dates there. Joe and I have gone to Laguna on many occasions since we began dating. It has a very special place in our hearts.

Resse Joy's Birth Day - San Luis Obispo, Ca.

Becky (Resse's mom) and I were friends in high school. We had lost touch through the years but thanks to Facebook have reconnected, and I am so glad that we did. I had been wanting to photograph a birth for a long time, but it's something that not a lot of people are requesting (I really don't know why) so I had posted on FB that I was looking for expecting mothers that would let me have the honor of capturing the birth of their coming baby. Becky replied to my request. Becky and her husband Nick are high school sweethearts and together they now have three beautiful children, and all of them were natural births. Jesse, Jude and I spent this past Thanksgiving nestled together in a cabin in Yosemite for four days. It was beautiful, crisp, fresh and covered in powdery snow. We were also joined by six of the coolest people to walk this earth, our great friends we are so blessed to know. This was not Jude's first visit to the snow, but I am sure this will be his first memory of it...he LOVED it, especially eating it. Janelle and Brian had a beautiful beach themed wedding that was so full of love and laughter.

The day started out at Janelle and Brian's home that had a great grapefruit tree that I was really excited to use for the photos. After Janelle was in her gorgeous gown, tears of joy were shed and the champagne was flowing we all boarded the school bus (yes!!!) and headed over to the church. The rest of the afternoon and into the evening was just a blast. Thank you Janelle and Brian for letting Jesse and I be a part of your day...it was a pure joy.

From the first phone conversation with Taylor I was SO excited about her wedding. We clicked so quickly that it felt like I had known her for years. By the time we first met each other for their engagement photos we already had a friendship. AJ is also just as friendly and a great husband for Taylor...they compliment each other so well :) Jesse and I had a lot of fun photographing their wedding, everything came together so beautifully...

John and Rose are amazing people. Jesse and I just fell in love with them the moment we met and have been super excited about this wedding for a long time now. Rose was a bridesmaid in my brother in law's wedding, and her and John had asked if Jesse and I could take a photo of them overlooking the ocean, both Jesse and I had deja vu of this moment when we were taking their photo again for their wedding. They are both genuine, kind and honest people and it was evident by the tear filled eyes of their wedding guests.

A good friend of mine is a hair stylist at The Hair Lounge in Santa Maria

(I will actually be blogging her wedding here really soon!!).

Emily's boss asked me about shooting some fun fashion photos for her salon and I was so excited!!! Each stylist had to style a model (hair, makeup, clothing...) around the inspiration of a pair of glasses. They did a fantastic job and the models were so wonderful to work with.

Paul lives in Saudi Arabia working in the US Embassy and was home for a few weeks so Amy contacted me about doing some themed family portraits. When she told me her ideas I got really giddy....she did a great job planning and organizing the costumes and sets.

Jeffrey and Melissa were a bride and groom of ours from 2008, it was actually the first wedding after having Jude. Jeffrey's mom is also Jude's nurse, so Jesse and I get updated every couple of months on how Jeffrey and Melissa are doing....we were thrilled to hear that they were expecting their first child. We met in Santa Margarita and drove out into nature. This place is incredible and totally worth getting yelled at by ranchers for trespassing.
